Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi left for Thimphu in Bhutan on Tuesday morning on a five-day visit to the neighbouring country. According to official sources at Guwahati, during his visit, Mr. Gogoi will participate in a seminar on the topic ‘Gross National Happiness’ in Thimphu. Besides, the Chief Minister will have discussions with top officials of the country on improving bi-lateral trade, business and tourism, particularly in the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) sharing common borders with Bhutan. Mr. Gogoi is also likely to take up flood and security-related matters with the high-level authorities of the country. Mr. Gogoi’s visit assumes significance following Assam Government’s proposed plan to develop border roads and trading points along the Bhutan boundary.
