Tareq al-Bishry appointed head of committee to suggest constitutional changes

Egypt's higher military council has appointed a retired judge, Tareq al-Bishry, to head a committee, which has been set up to suggest constitutional changes. Al-Bishry was a strong supporter of an independent judiciary during Hosni Mubarak's rule and is respected in legal circles for his independent views.Meanwhile, the director of public security at Egypt’s interior ministry Adly Fayed and Cairo’s security chief Ismail El Shaer have been sacked for their involvement in the decision to open fire on anti-Mubarak protesters during the uprising.Egypt has called on the international community to help speed Egypt's economic recovery after a revolt that toppled president Hosni Mubarak. In a statement the Foreign Minister Ahmad Abul Gheit emphasised that Egypt remains close to the Palestinian cause and continues to support the rights of the Palestinian people, including the pursuit of a UN Security Council resolution to freeze Israeli settlements.The life in the country is returning to normal. Banks will reopen today and Schools, colleges will open on the 20th of this month. Protest leaders say Egyptians will demonstrate again if their demands for radical changes are not met. The higher military council has already dissolved parliament and suspended the constitution. The council also set an approximate six-month timetable for democratic elections that would bring a new civilian government to power. It also announced that a new constitution would be drawn up subject to a referendum.
