Tanzanian woman assault case: MEA team to visit Bengaluru today

A team of External Affairs Ministry and High Commissioner of Tanzania will visit Bengaluru today following assault of a Tanzanian female student in the city. Expressing regret over the incident, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup assured necessary legal action against the culprits. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj took a high level meeting yesterday in view of the incident which was attended by the Foreign Secretary. Mrs Swaraj has sought detailed report from Commissioner of City, Bengaluru on the incident. <br/><br/>The Home Ministry has also sought a report from the Karnataka government over the incident. It has also sought details of steps taken for the protection of the victim. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju has termed the alleged assault of a Tanzanian woman as a matter of shame saying the country will not tolerate any racial discrimination. The 21-year-old Tanzanian student was allegedly beaten up and stripped by a mob.
