In Tamilnadu, Cauvery delta farmers in the remote Irayankudi region of Nagapattinam district have vociferously welcomed the arrival of Cauvery waters in the early morning today. The waters from the Cauvery river, the lifeline of agriculture mainly rice and sugarcane were opened at the principal Mettur dam on 12th June and at the Grand Anicut dam near Trichy on 16th June. It is notable that Cauvery water has reached the remote corners bordering on the Bay of Bengal, after a long gap of 8 years.<br />'' <br />'' Farmers offered floral tributes and made special offerings of grains to welcome Cauvery water. Traditional music and dance forms were also performed. Various farmers associations have informed that pre – sowing activities for the Kuruvai crops have been completed.<br />'' <br />'' Quality seedlings have been provided through the Farm Production Centres in various parts of the state. The information centers of ICAR as well as the state agriculture department have checked soil quality and issued soil health cards. The state PWD officials have assured that water will be released for Kuruvai irrigation as soon as nearby ponds, canals and other water bodies start getting filled up. <br />
