In Tamilnadu, Republic day was celebrated in all the districts with district administrations making all the arrangements. In the State Capital Chennai, Tamilnadu Governor K.Rosaiah visited the Victory war memorial before taking the salute at the parade.He paid homage to the martyrs and laid wreath in remembrance of all those who had laid down their lives safeguarding the territorial integrity of the motherland. After the event, the Governor hoisted the National flag and took the salute at the Kamarajar Salai, the road alongside the beautiful Marina. College and School Children performed colourful dances signifying the splendour of our Nation.

Awards were also given to persons who did remarkable service in the field of communal harmony,agriculture and also to police personnel whose contribution was outstanding by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on the occassion.
