Tamil Nadu has sought coordinated action with Kerala and Karnataka on security and development matters to root out Maoist threat. In a letter by the state chief minister J.Jayalalithaa, which was read out by the state finance minister O.Panneerselvam in the 26th Southern Zonal Council meeting held in Vijayawada, it is mentioned that Maoist movements have been sighted in the tri-junction areas of the three states.<br/><br/>Tamil Nadu has also urged the Centre to restart power production in the first unit of the Kudankulam (????????) nuclear power plant. It commenced its commercial operation in December last year, yielding 563 megawatt power to the state out of its total capacity of 1000 megawatt. However, it remains shut down since late June this year for maintenance. <br/><br/>The state has also insisted that the second unit of the nuclear power installation at Kudankulam having equal capacity should also be commissioned at the earliest to tide over power crisis in the state.<br/><br/>In the chief minister Jayalalithaa's letter, a copy of which was released to the media, it is mentioned that the state is willing to part-finance rail projects and to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Railways to set up a Special Purpose Vehicle to promote new railway projects.
