The Tamil Nadu Government has urged the National Commission for Scheduled castes to impress upon the centre to sanction additional funds for higher education, housing for scheduled castes. <br/><br/>Addressing a state level review meeting of the National commission for scheduled castes in Chennai today, the State Adi dravidar welfare minister Mrs Tamilarasi wanted the commission to urge the centre to increase the annual income for obtaining scholarship by students of the community. Listing the schemes being implemented for the welfare of the SC and ST’s, the minister said 21 lakh huts in rural areas are to be converted into permanent houses and said major beneficiaries would be the scheduled castes.<br/><br/>Later speaking to newsmen the Vice Chairman of the Commission Mr Kamble lauded the tamil nadu government for implementing welfare schemes for the upliftment of the community. He said the state government has been advised to set up special courts to clear the pendency of cases relating to atrocities committed against Scheduled castes.
