In Tamil Nadu, a sit in protest was held on Sunday near Idninthakarai in Tirunelveli district, against the decision to upload fuel in the nuclear reactor at Koodankulam plant. In view of the protest, policemen from Tirunelveli and neighbouring districts have been deployed in the area. The policemen thwarted the protesters' attempts to march towards the nuclear plant.Earlier, the District Collector Selvaraj had issued notices to the protesters terming their protests as illegal and in violation of the Court's order. Chennai High Court had dismissed a PIL filed against Atomic Energy Regulatory Board’s clearance to Nuclear Power Corporation to initial fuel loading of Unit one of the Nuclear plant. AIR Correspondent reports that, reeling under long power cuts, Tamil Nadu badly needs electricity and these kinds of protests will only further delay the opening of the nuclear plant.
