<span style="color: #222222;">The opening of the Grand Anicut Dam, near Trichy, has been postponed. Official sources clarified that the postponement, till later today, is intended to allow increased quantum of Cauvery water to reach the dam.<br />'' <br />'' State Ministers Doraikkannu, O S Maniyan and Kamaraj  are at Thanjavoor to personally oversee the arrangements.<br />'' <br />'' Farmers in far flung Cauvery delta districts like Tiruvaroor and Nagapattinam are anxiously awaiting the opening of Grand Anicut, locally known as the Kallanai. The sowing for the Kuruvai crops depends mainly upon the opening of Kallanai.<br />'' <br />'' Though the dam is situated about 15 to 20 kms away from Trichy city, it falls under the administrative region of Thanjavoor district, often described as the 'Rice Bowl of Tamil Nadu'.</span><br />
