Today is World Tiger Day.<b> </b>The officials of the Mudumalai Tiger Sanctuary, which lies at the tri junction of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka states in the Wayanad hills of the Western Ghats say that the number of tigers visiting the sanctuary has increased to 162. They have also confirmed that the population of tigers residing in the 132-square kilometer sanctuary stands at a record 103.<br />'' <br />''The officials have cited good climatic conditions, healthy environment, and availability of abundant water resources as some of the reasons for the increase in tiger population. An intensive information campaign on how people should behave in wild life sanctuaries and the strict do's and don'ts that they must follow is being started in the sanctuary today. <br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The use of plastics as well as littering is prohibited in the sanctuary. The officials have also said that the food remains and other waste materials should be removed from the sanctuary limits by the tourists themselves.</span><br />
