<span style="color: #222222;">The Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Department has initiated plans to form a separate wing under it to devise strategies for offering services to senior citizens. Minister for Social Welfare Geeta Jeevan told the Assembly yesterday, that the decision has been taken in view of the growing number of aged people in the state. Data suggest that the state has over 75 lakh people who are 60-plus now, which is expected to almost double to one crore 42-lakh by 2031. The minister said a senior citizens integrated complex will be established near Kanchipuram on about four hectares of land. She also promised that gender budgeting will be initiated in all the departments, to ensure equitable growth for women.</span><br />
