Tamil Nadu: Met Dept predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall over North Coastal parts; CM M.K.Stalin takes stock of the situation

<span style="color: #222222;">In Tamil Nadu, the Regional Met Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at most places over North Coastal parts and in interior parts of the State. Isolated heavy rains are also likely over three districts due to the prevalence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over South West Bay of Bengal and also due to the formation of a low pressure over Southeast of the Bay of Bengal. The low-pressure trough extends from the southwest and adjoining Sri Lanka to the low-pressure area over South East Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Akashvani correspondent reports that the weather department has predicted widespread heavy rains in Northern and interior delta districts of the State. The warning has also been given to Gulf of Mannar and Comorin areas as more rains coupled with squally weather is expected in the next 24 hours. Fishing activity has been stopped in the areas where heavy rains are predicted and educational institutions were closed today in rain-bound districts.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin took stock of the situation and visited the State Emergency Control Centre in Chennai and interacted with the district collectors to deal with the situation. NDRF and SDRF teams are kept ready and instructions have been issued to the Collectors to take immediate steps depending on the situation. According to the Weather Department, heavy rains above 20 cm are likely in two delta districts. Rainfall above 17 cm was witnessed today at Nagapattinam and more than 15 cm in Cuddalore, Thiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai districts. More than five cm of rainfall was witnessed due to the Intermittent showers at Chennai and suburban areas  Rains are bound to continue for some more days.</span><br />
