Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday reduced the power tariffs for powerloom weavers who are on strike for over a week. Making a suo motu statement in the assembly, she said free power supply to those weavers using upto 500 units for two months would continue as announced earlier. The reduction in power tariffs would cost the exchequer an additional 59.69 crore rupees.Powerloom weavers consuming 501 units to 1000 units every two months would need to pay 2 rupees per unit compared to the existing four.For those units consuming 1001 to 1500 units every two months, would need to pay three rupees per unit.
