In Tamil Nadu, fishermen in Rameswaram went on an indefinite strike from today protesting against the bill brought in the Sri Lankan Parliament banning bottom trawling in their zone. The fishermen want their fishing rights in Palk Bay restored without any hindrance.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapady Palanisamy had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging steps to register protest against the Sri Lankan bill restricting fishing in Palk Bay. Fishermen are resorting to indefinite strike in Rameswaram and Pamban. They are wary that fishermen will have to pay hefty fine if they are caught by Sri Lankan Navy. <br/><br/>Sri Lankan Navy apprehended five fishermen from Pudukottai Jagadapattinam and detained their fishing boat early today. Local fishermen are urging the government to secure the release of fifty fellow fishermen languishing in Lankan Jail. They also urge immediate release of 146 fishing boats detained by Lanka.<br/>
