Tamil Nadu: DMK stages walkout from Assembly on Puducherry LG's remarks on TN water crisis

<span style="color: #222222;">The Opposition DMK party in Tamil Nadu staged a walkout from the State Assembly today. It was against the denial of permission to raise the issue of neighbouring Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi's tweet about the drinking water crisis in Chennai. The DMK and Congress brought special adjournment motion in the House to discuss about the issue of drinking water shortage. </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"><br />'' In his remarks, DMK leader MK Stalin said the budget papers laid by AIADMK Government since 2016-17 says over 46-thousand crore rupees have been allocated for drinking water schemes. He charged that many of the schemes remain non-functional. </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"><br />'' Mr. Stalin also tried to raise the issue of the tweet by Ms Bedi, while the State Law minister CV Shanmugham tried to respond to it. However, Speaker Dhanapal expunged the remarks made by both of them saying the House Rule 92, Section 7, does not permit any adverse remarks about the Governor. He then led his party members out of the House.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"><br />'' Later, in a statement, Mr Stalin demanded that Ms Bedi should her controversial tweet. He also asked for her immediate recall by the Centre.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"><br />'' Ms Bedi in her tweet said, India's sixth largest city Chennai has become the first city in the country to run dry. She added that the same city was in floods due to copious rains just four years back. In her tweet, she opined that poor governance, corrupt politics and indifferent bureaucracy was responsible for the precarious situation. </span><br />
