The total number of Covid infection cases in Tamil Nadu is just three thousand short of five lakh mark as of now. The state health department's latest media bulletin says about five thousand people were tested positive for the infection yesterday, including 978 in Chennai. The total recoveries have crossed four lakh forty one thousand.
''
''AIR correspondent reports that though the total infection count is mounting to new high's, the active caseload remains a little above 47 thousand. It shows a continuous decline for the past few days. The active interventions like organising fever camps and identifying and screening the Severe Acute Respiratory Infection or SARI patients with the help of the focus volunteers in high-incidence cities and towns like Chennai have been helpful in containing the numbers, despite the slew of relaxations under the Unlock4, say health officials.
''
''The current case mortality rate in the state remains well under 1.67 percent. Efforts are being made to bring it under one percent in the immediate future. Similarly attempts are being made to bring down the case positivity rate below five percent, which at present is nearly ten. It was as high as 37 percent a couple of months back. The feat is being achieved in spite of the total RT-PCR tests mounting as high as eighty thousand a day.
