In Tamil Nadu, The Coast Guard eastern region has enhanced vigil on the east coast even as its ships and aircrafts are constantly monitoring suspicious activities as a part of the operation. A defence press release in Chennai on Wednesday stated that as a part of this operation Indian Coast Guard ship Sarang had apprehended 3 Sri Lankan fishing boats with 13 fishermen and approximately 1800 kgs of fish on the 24th of this month. In another incident Coast Guard ship Vajra had apprehended 2 Sri Lankan fishing boats with 11 fishermen and 1500 kgs off Paradip coast. The boats belong to the south west coast of Sri Lanka and they were well equipped with GPS, Radar and long range high frequency communication which is a very high security risk for the Coast. The issue of fishing by Sri Lankan boats close to the Indian Coast poses a security risk and needs to be addressed at appropriate level. With this apprehension this year a total of 25 boats with 124 fishermen and 27,750 kgs of fish were apprehended by the Coast Guard of the eastern region.
