Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapady K Palanisamy has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene personally in the livelihood issue of Tamil Nadu fishermen. In a letter written today he said the central government should use diplomatic means to curb aggressive actions of the Sri Lankan Navy in the Palk Bay, and protect life innocent Indian fishermen. He requested Prime Minister to summon the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India convey the strong feelings regarding unprovoked firing on fishermen violating earlier agreements. <br/><br/>Our correspondent reports that protests continue in Ramanatahapuram Rameswaram and Thankachimadom condemning the shooting incident by Sri Lankan Navy which killed Rameswaram fisherman. Thousands of relatives and fellow fishermen are still protesting refusing to receive the body of killed fisherman Britjo. The mother of the dead fisherman said in tears that a lasting solution to the fishermen issue should be found. She refused to take the compensation of Rs 5 lakh announced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said that he was informed that four Sri Lankan Naval vessels surrounded the fishing boat and opened unprovoked and indiscriminate fire on the unarmed fishermen. Britjo died of bullet injuries while being brought to the shore and Saran has been admitted in Ramanathapuram hospital. Local fishermen urge the immediate release of 85 fellow fishermen languishing in Lankan jail and 128 fishing boats detained by Lanka.
