Pongal the harvest festival is being celebrated today across Tamil Nadu with traditional frevour and gaiety. The festival also coincides with the Tamil New Year Day. The Governor Mr Surjit Singh Barnala, Chief Minister Mr M Karunanidhi and leaders cutting across party lines have greeted the people on this festive occasion.<br/><br/>In his message the Governor said, ‘Let this harvest festival bring peace, progress and prosperity’. Chief Minister Mr M Karunanidhi greeted the people on behalf of his Government which implements various schemes for making Tamil Nadu the foremost state in the nation. Leader of the opposition Ms J Jayalalithaa also greeted the people on the occasion of Pongal.
