<span style="color: #222222;">Tamil Nadu assembly session began today. Being the first session of the year, it began with the customary address by the state Governor Bunwarilal Purohit. The entire opposition led by the DMK boycotted Governor's speech over the Citizenship Amendment Act, alleged misdeeds in the recent rural local body elections and a host of other issues.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The Governor said, Tamil Nadu maintains the lead in maintaining law and order, industrial growth and good governance. He said the government would ensure that the interests of the people of all faith are ensured. He thanked the Centre for not signing the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, RCEP, to protect the interests of the country's dairy sector.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Governor Bunwarilal Purohit reiterated the state's demand to reject the proposal of Karnataka to build a new reservoir across River Cauvery at Mekedatu and urged the Centre to form a tribunal to look into the River Pennaiyar row. He urged the Centre to expedite the Godavari-Cauvery interlinking project to supply at least 200-TMC water to Tamil Nadu. He also demanded giving dual citizenship to Sri Lankan Tamil refugees.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">AIR correspondent reports that Governor Bunwarilal Purohit expressed satisfaction over the recent rural local body elections in 27 districts. He assured that the polls in the rest of the districts and the urban civic bodies would also be conducted very soon. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He said the good monsoon and the upgraded irrigation facilities have ensured cultivation in an additional seven lakh acres and said 115 lakh metric tonnes of food grain production is expected. He also outlined the infrastructure development projects being planned like the industrial corridors, Chennai Metro rail network expansion and road networks.</span><br />
