<span style="color: #222222;">The 60 day trawling ban came into force midnight last night in the eastern sea coast of Tamil Nadu. The annual ban is an eco friendly measure that takes into account the spawning season of fishes in the sea. The ban has come into effect in all the fisherman villages on the Bay of Bengal coast in Tamil Nadu, from Thiruvalloor district in the North to Kanyakumari district in the South. This includes 69 in the Nagapattinam district where fishing is one of the primary rural trades.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Official sources confirmed that the annual ban has been announced under the provisions of the 1983 Marine Activities Regulation Act. However fishing using country boats will be allowed during the period. Long lines of boats, securely covered to prevent damage, is a very common sight in these villages. Villagers spent the ban season doing major repairs for the boats, repairing deep sea fishing nets, painting of boats etc.</span><br />''  <br />
