<span style="color: #222222;">In Tamil Nadu, 90 of the COVID-19 patients have been discharged today from hospitals while 54 new cases have been recorded. The total number of infected cases has gone up to 1683 including 400 in Chennai alone. However, the active caseload in the state is 908. Two patients died of the disease in the last twenty-four hours taking the toll to 20. Testing of more than 1400 other samples are under process in various laboratories whose results are awaited. Meanwhile, the state government has permitted certain works to be carried out during the lockdown period. AIR correspondent reports that the Tamil Nadu Government has permitted resuming certain works by relaxing the lockdown conditions. They include the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Scheme works in areas other than containment zones. Construction works have been permitted in rural areas like irrigation, medical institutions, roads, dams, brick kilns, hardware material supply and electricity-related projects. State and central government offices for the maintenance of essential services have also been permitted, with the rider that the attending staff strength should be one third of the total strength and that they all should wear masks and keep social distancing. Meanwhile, Chief Minister has consulted prominent industrial houses in the state about the norms to be followed in industries after the restrictions are lifted in phases.</span><br />
