Talks with Iran over its disputed nuclear program have failed, says IAEA

The International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA says the talks with Iran over its disputed nuclear program have failed.

Teheran has also rejected a request to visit a key military site in Parchin. The IAEA Chief Yukia Amano said the two sides couldn’t reach to any agreement.

Iran's envoy to the IAEA, Ali Asghar Soltanieh said Tehran expects to hold more talks with the U.N. agency. However the UN nuclear watchdog made it clear that no further meetings were planned.

AIR West Asia Correspondent reports, the second round of talks between the five member IAEA team led by its Chief weapons inspector, Herman Naeckarts and Iranian authorities has failed. The team would be returning later today.

In a statement, the Vienna based agency said during both rounds of discussions, the agency team requested access to the military site at Parchin which was refused by Teheran.

An IAEA report in November had named Parchin as one of the military sites where Iran was suspected to work on developing an atom bomb. Iran had rejected the allegations as baseless at that time.

The IAEA team had gone to Teheran to seek clarifications over its dispute nuclear program and its possible military dimensions.

Experts say the failure of IAEA’s mission may have a fallout on the resumption of talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the Security Council plus Germany.

European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Marie Ashton had promised to bring new initiatives without any preconditions.
