Talks between agitating farmers and Punjab CM remain inconclusive over demands to raise compensation for damages to cotton crops

Talks between agitating farmers and Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal remained inconclusive Monday. After the meeting, farmers said the meeting failed to achieve any breakthrough. The agitating farmers will decide their next move after a meeting of their leaders today.<br/><br/>Punjab government has said that the Chief Minister apprised the farmers that their demands and other issues will be resolved amicably. Mr Badal assured farmers that the issues, which are not within the ambit of the state government, would be taken-up with the Central Government for an early resolution.<br/><br/>The farmers are blocking train tracks at 13 spots across the state. The agitation has resulted in cancellation of more than 330 trains in Ferozpur Division and 150 in Ambala Division causing a loss of crores of rupees to the Railways besides inconvenience to the people. <br/><br/>Agitating farmers are demanding compensation of 40 thousand rupees per acre for loss of cotton crop due to whitefly pest attack and 4500 rupees per quintal minimum support price for 1509 variety of paddies. They are also demanding 5000 rupees price for 1121 variety, waiver of debts and relief to the farm labourers.
