In Assam, the much-awaited talk between the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leaders and the Government is expected to be held within next two months. This was stated by the State Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi after his meeting with PC Haldar, who has been appointed the Central Government’s interlocutor for talks with the outfit. Making a statement in Guwahati, the Chief Minister said efforts are also on to involve ULFA’s Commander-in-Chief Paresh Barua in the negotiation process. Lauding the steps initiated by Mr. Haldar to settle the 30-year long insurgency in the State, the Chief Minister said the peace process with the outfit would be taken to its logical conclusion. Earlier, Mr.Haldar apprised the Chief Minister of the initiatives taken so far to prepare the ground for a negotiated settlement with ULFA. Mr. Haldar also met the jailed ULFA leaders including the outfit’s Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa, Foreign Secretary Sasha Choudhury and Deputy Commander-in-Chief Raju Baruah in a ‘cordial atmosphere’.
