Taliban threatens to target media in Pak for Malala coverage

In Pakistan, the Taliban have threatened media organisation of action for criticising it in the attack on 14 year old Rights Activist Malala Yousufzai. Following the threat, Pakistan government has directed authorities to station heavy contingents of police in areas where important media organizations are functioning. Government said the media can request the government for stationing Frontier Constabulary too.

The threat came to light when Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan leader Hakimullah Mehsud issued special directive to operatives for taking action against international and national media organizations in different cities of Pakistan. An official of Pakistan's interior ministry said , agencies recorded a telephonic conversation wherein Mehsud directing a Taliban operative called Intiqami to take action against media organizations. The Taliban have also threatened media organizations through emails and telephonic conversations. There are also reports that Taliban threatened to kill Malala's father Ziauddin Yousufzai and other members of her family.
