In Afghanistan a Taliban military commander in Kabul was killed in yesterday's Islamic State attack on a hospital in which 25 people were killed and more than 50 injured. Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said today that the name of slain commander is Hamdullah Mokhlis, who was a member of the hardline Haqqani network and an officer in the Badri Corps special forces. Hamdullah Mokhlis is the most senior figure to have been killed since the Taliban seized the capital.
''
'' The Taliban media official added ,"when he got the information that Sardar Daud Khan Hospital was under attack, Maulvi Hamdullah (Mokhlis), the commander of the Kabul corps, immediately rushed to the scene and he was killed in the face-to-face fight at the hospital," .
''
'' The explosions hit the entrance of Kabul's Sardar Daud Khan Military hospital and were followed with an assault by a group of gunmen, all of whom were killed within minutes. Zabihullah Mujahid said, Taliban Special Forces dropped by helicopter had prevented the attackers from entering the hospital itself, with all killed at the entrance or in the courtyard. No-one has yet claimed responsibility, but the Taliban have blamed the Islamic State affiliate IS-Khorasan for the attack.
''
'' United Nations' Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), along with countries condemned the attack. In a tweet, UNAMA said, attacks targeting medical personnel and civilians seeking treatment are violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.
'' In 2017, IS-K mounted a complex attack on the Daoud Khan hospital, killing more than 30 people. The group has carried out a series of attacks on mosques and other targets since the Taliban's seizure of Kabul.
