In Afghanistan, dozens of policemen have been kidnapped by Taliban militants in Northeastern province of Kunar. A Taliban spokesman claimed that they have kidnapped 50 policemen in Afghanistan last afternoon after being tipped off that they would be travelling to the province. He said the policemen from Nuristan province had just finished their training to join the Afghan National Police. Kunar provincial police Chief Gen. Khalilullah Zaiyi confirmed that militants stopped four vehicles in Chapa Dara district and captured several dozen men. He did not know the exact number and said it was nuclear whether all were members of the Afghan National Police or prospective recruits.Meanwhile, Afghan intelligence spokesman has said that security officials have arrested seven militants who had been planning to conduct attacks during last Monday's Afghan new year celebrations. Lutfullah Mashal told a press conference that all seven of the militants, including sucide bomebrs, are linked with the Haqqani network, and the plan was to carry out suicide attacks at a shrine West of Kabul.
