Taliban militants attack govt. buildings in Afghanistan

In Afghanistan, nine Taliban militants equipped with suicide vests and automatic weapons attacked government buildings in western province of Nomroz today killing a lawmaker and three policemen. Provincial police chief General Jabar Purdeli said all the nine attackers were killed when police retaliated. He said eight were killed when they detonated their vests or when police shot at them and the ninth attacker was shot dead by forces and his vest was intact. A female provincial lawmaker Gul Makai Osmani and three policemen were killed while ten policemen and six civilians were injured in the fight which lasted for hours. A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the attack. President Hamid Karzai strongly condemned the attack saying it is the handiwork of enemies of Afghanistan.
