Taliban kill eight Afghan soldiers

In Afghanistan, eight policemen were reportedly killed last night when Taliban militants attacked a police checkpoint in Arghandab district of southern Kandahar province.<br/>Meanwhile, three children were killed today when militants fired two rockets into a crowded market northeast of Kabul where the head of French forces was having a meeting with tribal elders. The attack, which occurred in Tagab valley, around 30 miles from Kabul, wounded 20 other people. A French military spokesman said the attack appeared to have targeted Brig. Gen. Marcel Druart. About 700 French and 100 Afghan soldiers had launched an offensive in the valley yesterday to clear the area of militants, which is often used to stage attack on capital Kabul.<br/>
