Take action against attacks on Indians: India tells Oz

New Delhi has said that Australian authorities must act tough against those behind the attacks on Indians. Reacting to the latest attack in which Juspreet Singh was set on fire, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vyalar Ravi said that it is unfortunate that things are not moving as they were promised and it is very disturbing for both the people and the government. Mr. Ravi said that he wants to make it loud and clear that Australian government must take action to prevent such attacks and take action against the culprits behind them.Earlier, External Affairs Ministry spokesman said that the Indian High Commissioner in Canberra and Council General in Melbourne are following up the matter vigorously with the Australian authorities. He said that the condition of Jaspreet Singh who received burn injuries in the attack is not critical but he has been hospitalised for treatment. He said that under the circumstances, the media is advised to exercise utmost restraint in reporting on these sensitive issues as it could aggravate the situation and could have a bearing on India's bilateral relations with Australia.According to Australian media , 29 year old Jaspreet was attacked in Essendon in Melbourne. He had just come home from a dinner party with his wife and went to park his car when four men poured fluid over him and set him alight. He is in a stable condition in the Alfred Hospital with 20 per cent burns.Meanwhile, the Government has sanctioned an ex-gratia payment of 2.5 lakh rupees for the family of Nitin Garg who was stabbed to death in Melbourne earlier this week.Meanwhile, the body of Nitin Garg, who was stabbed to death by in Melbourne, has reached his native place in Jagraon, near Ludhiana in Punjab, early this morning. The Government sources has informed that his remains would be consigned to flames by 10.00 AM at the Dana Mandi Cremation Ground in Jagraon.
