Taiwan has issued a maritime warning as the island braced for Typhoon Talim, which is expected to hit northern cities, including Taipei today. The Central Weather Bureau said Talim is expected to gain in strength as it swept towards the capital and other cities, lashing them with strong wind and heavy rain.<br/><br/>The bureau said that the Typhoon is expected to slam into the north and northeast with maximum sustained wind speeds of 137 kilometer per hour and gusts of up to 173 kilometer per hour. A warning for sea traffic is also issued by the Central Weather Bureau. China Airlines and EVA Airways, Taiwan's two largest carriers, said they would cancel some inbound and outbound international flights scheduled for later today.<br/><br/>China's National Meteorological Centre also warned that Talim could intensify and turn into a super typhoon as it churned towards Taiwan and Zhejiang and Fujian provinces on the Chinese mainland.
