Tagore’s 150th Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee meeting held

The first meeting of the 150th Birth Anniversary celebration Committee of Ravindranath Tagore headed by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today held discussions on policies and laid down guidelines for appropriate celebrations of Tagore's 150th Birth Anniversary. The meeting held at the Prime Minister's residence was attended by the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, Dr. Karan Singh, Film personality Adoor Gopalakrishnan among others.<br/> The National Implementation Committee on Tagore has already taken the host of decisions in connection with the celebrations. The Committee led by the Finanace Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee has decided to construct new Tagore centres in all state capitals where there is no such complex. There is also a proposal for restoration, renovation and up gradation of Ravindra Sadan in Kolkata. The Committee has also decided to hold a travelling exhibition in Paris, London, Berlin, Rome and New York in May next year. A national award is also being instituted in the name of Tagore. The award will be given for excellence in the field of literature, dance, music and visual arts. <br/>
