S&P 500, Nasdaq reach their highest closes in 14 months

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq reached their highest closes in 14 months on Tuesday after data showed consumer prices rose modestly in May.   The Nasdaq Composite index rose 0.85 percent, the S&P 500 accelerated 0.7 percent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.45 percent.

S&P 500, Dow hit record highs on first trading day of 2022

The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average posted closing record highs on the first trading day of the year yesterday, helped by gains in Tesla Inc and bank shares. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.7 percent, the S&P 500 rose 0.6 percent and the Nasdaq Composite index jumped 1.2 percent.

S&P 500, Nasdaq hit record highs

The major US stocks gained on Thursday. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq hit record highs. Higher commodity prices helped energy stocks to recover ground. The energy sector rose, reversing most of the losses suffered during the first three days of the week. The latest jobs data also encouraged investors, however, gains in wall street indices remained in a narrow range. The dow Jones gained 0.4 percent, the S&P 500 rose 0.3 percent and the Nasdaq Composite index added 0.1 percent.

S&P 500, Dow close with marginal gains

The S&P 500 and the Dow closed with marginal gains with support of financial stocks.  The US stocks traded in a narrow range ahead of minutes from the Federal Reserve's last meeting that could offer clues on the central bank's views on inflation and an economic recovery. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained but ended almost flat, the S&P 500 added 0.2 percent while the Nasdaq Composite index fell marginally by 0.1 percent.

S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average end at record highs

The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at record highs on Wednesday after the Fed predicted a fast economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic and said it would maintain its interest rate at close to zero.   The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.6 percent, the S&P 500 added 0.3 percent and the Nasdaq Composite index gained 0.4 percent.

The S&P 500 and the Dow fell from record highs yesterday as nerves over the outcome of runoff elections in Georgia this week countered optimism over a vaccine-driven recovery in the global economy.
