Rupee appreciates 24 paise to settles at 72.79 against US dollar

The rupee appreciated 24 paise to settle at 72 rupees and 79 paise against the US dollar in the business week ended yesterday. The domestic unit rose during the week mainly due to gains in the domestic equity markets and weakness in the american currency. During the week, the dollar index, which indicates the US dollar's strength against a basket of six other leading currencies, fell around 0.3 percent to 90.68.
