Sensex falls by 42 points, Nifty by 16 in afternoon trade

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange was 42 points down at 35,580 a short while ago.  The 30-share index rose 76 points in the opening trade.  The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange was 16 points in red at 10,801 when reports last came in.
