Manpreet Singh, PR Sreejesh rested for Tokyo Olympics test event

In Hockey, Captain Manpreet Singh and Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh are among a few senior players rested from the Indian team for next month's Olympic Test event in Tokyo.  Besides Manpreet and Sreejesh, defender Surender Kumar is also rested from the 18-member men's squad for the 17th to 21st August event. Dragflicker Harmanpreet Singh will don the captain's armband in Manpreet's absence, while striker Mandeep Singh will be his deputy.

Youth hockey: Central Railway, Union Bank emerge champions

In Hockey, the Central Railway beat Western Railway 3-2 in an absorbing women's final of the St Peters Youth Centre Open Hockey Tournament in Mumbai today. In the men's final, Union Bank of India prevailed over Coorg eleven by a comfortable 2-0 margin to emerge champions.

Hockey India announces 18-member Squad for FIH Men's Series Finals

Hockey India today announced the much-awaited 18-member national Hockey Squad for the FIH Men's Series Finals commencing in Bhubaneswar on the 6th of next month. It will be led by Manpreet Singh. Punjab beat Chandigarh 3-1 in Senior Men's National Hockey Championship

Defending champions Hockey Punjab beat Chandigarh 3-1 in the Senior Men's National Hockey Championship in Gwalior today. This was their third win in the championship.   On the fourth day of the competition, Railway Sports Promotion Board, Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd, Hockey Gangpur-Odisha, Petroleum Sports Promotion Board, Air India Sports Promotion Board, Hockey Haryana and Hockey Karnataka also registered wins in their respective Pool matches.

Indian women play draw with Spain in 2nd international hockey match

In the second international hockey match, Indian women earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against host Spain at Muricia last evening.  Indian team put up a spirited performance in a high-voltage second encounter after losing 2-3 to Spain in their opening match on Saturday. India will play their third match of the tour tomorrow.

Germany beat Pakistan 1-0 in Pool-D match of men's Hockey World Cup

In Hockey, Germany beat Pakistan 1-0 in a hard fought Pool-D match of men's World Cup in Bhubaneswar today.  Earlier in the evening, Jeroen Hertzberger scored a hat-trick to help last edition silver medallist the Netherlands spank a hapless Malaysia 7-0 in a lopsided opening encounter.  Tomorrow, in Pool-C Matches, Canada meet South Africa at 5 p.m. and India play Belgium at 7 p.m.

Hockey India names 33-member core group for women's national camp

Hockey India today named a 33-member core group for the women's national camp beginning in Bengaluru on Monday. The camp, to be conducted under the watchful eyes of chief coach Sjoerd Marijne, will conclude on November 30.  The chief coach said, the core group continues to remain the same while a few younger players who have shown good performances in the domestic events, have been brought in. Marijne said, the core group also has women who have done well at the Youth Olympic Games.
