National Table Tennis Championships: Soumyajit, Ankita enter in semifinals

In Table Tennis, Soumyajit Ghosh and Ankita Das progressed to the semifinals of the men's and women's singles at the 81st National Championships in Hyderabad today. Soumyajit and Ankita notched up thrilling wins over A Sharath Kamal and Anusha Kutumbale. Soumyajit beat second seed Sharath 4-2 to set up a meeting with Harmeet Desai, while Ankita took a set more to beat Anusha 4-3. Ankita will face Krittwika Sinha Roy. The semifinals will be played tomorrow.

Deepika wins gold, Ankita bags silver in Asian archery Championships

Indian archers Deepika Kumari won gold while Ankita Bhakat bagged silver medal in the women's individual recurve event of the 21st Asian Championships in Bangkok. Deepika defeated Ankita 6-0 in the one-sided final. The duo had earlier secured an individual Olympic quota for the country by storming into the semifinals of the event. Earlier in the last-four stage, Ankita got the better of Bhutan's Karma while Deepika defeated Nguyet Do Thi Anh of Vietnam.
