Table Tennis: Soumyajit Ghosh, Manika Batra book their Rio berths

Indian Table Tennis players, Soumyajit Ghosh and Manika Batra have booked berths in the forthcoming Rio Olympics. Both the paddlers won their groups in the Asian Qualifiers in Hong Kong yesterday to book the tickets to Rio. The competition was restricted to India alone as no other country from the region participated in the South Asian Zone qualification event. Four players in each section played against one another to grab a spot.Ace Indian paddler Sharath Kamal managed just one win. Sharath will now play in the main Asian Qualifiers which begin after the conclusion of other Zone qualifiers. Even if he loses then, Sharath should automatically qualify for the Games based on his Olympic rankings which the International Table Tennis Federation will release next month after all qualification tournaments.World Number 2 Ding Ning has gone down to Japan's Ito Mima 4-2 in the Women's Singles. Ding Ning is the 2nd top player from China to bow out of the tournament, after top-ranked Liu Shiwen was bounced in the first round.
