T20WC: Rain delays start of Sri Lanka-South Africa match

Rain has delayed the start of World Twenty20 match between hosts Sri Lanka and South Africa at Hambantota scheduled at 3.30 p.m. The match was expected to be a cracking contest. It is still raining and even the toss could not be held. It is said to be area's first proper rain in eight months. The entire ground is covered. At best, a five-over game can start at 6.15 pm.The second league match later this evening scheduled at 7.30 p.m. at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Colombo will be between Australia and West Indies. Already assured of their places in Super Eight stage of the ICC World Twenty20, both Sri Lanka and South Africa would be eyeing a win to top their Pool.Simultaneously, ICC Women's World T20 warm up matches have also started in Sri Lanka. In the match earlier in the day played at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo, Pak Women beat Sri Lanka Women by 4 wickets with 16 balls remaining. The second warm up Women's World T20 match between England Women and South Africa women is in progress at the Moors Sports Club Ground in Colombo.
