Put into bat, India compiled a formidable 170 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs. Middle order batsman Rohit Sharma scored a superb 55 not out, helping India reach a competitive total of 170. Gautam Gambhir with 45 and Virat Kohli with 40 were the other valuable contributors. Needing 171 to win, England were bundled out for 80, their lowest T-20 score. Off Spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was playing an international match after a gap of one year, was the pick of the bowlers. He bagged 4 wickets, conceding just 12 runs from his 4 overs. Piyush Chawla and Irfan Pathan also took two wickets each. Harbhajan was adjudged man of the match.Earlier, in another match, Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 13 runs at Pallekele.
