England beat South Africa by 39 runs in their Group E Super Eight match of the Twenty20 cricket World Cup at Bridgetown in Barbados yesterday. A blistering 94-run second wicket stand between Craig Kieswetter and Kevin Pietersen helped England decimate South Africa and inch closer to the semifinal berth. Electing to bat first, England made 168 for seven in stipulated 20 overs. In reply, only Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis, JP Duminy and Johan Botha could manage double figures as South Africa collapsed to 129 in 19 overs.In another match at the same venue, New Zealand pushed defending champions Pakistan to the brink of ouster from the Twenty20 World Cup after scoring a pulsating one-run win in their crucial Super Eight match.Chasing 134 to win, Pakistan required 11 runs from the last over but paceman Ian Butler bowled two dot balls and took a wicket off the last ball to emerge hero for the Black Caps.Despite being restricted to a below-par 133 for seven, New Zealand fought tooth and nail and kept themselves in contention of qualifying for the semifinals.In today's encounters, while India take on West Indies at Bridgetown, Australia clash with Sri Lanka at the same venue.
