T-20 World: WIndies beat Sri Lanka by 7 wkts; SL Women defeat Ireland by 14 runs

In World T-20, West Indies defeated holders Sri Lanka by 7 wickets at Bengaluru last night to win their second consecutive Super -10 group match.AIR correspondent reports, Sri Lanka failed to cope up with the brilliance of Andre Fletcher and Samuel Badree as the Caribbeans continued their excellent show in World T20 to record their second win on the trot.Opting to bowl, leg-spinner Badree's figures of 3 for 12 in 4 overs proved a little too much for the Lions who posted 122 for 9 thanks to an end-of-innings cameo from Thisara Perera.In reply, Fletcher opened for the West Indies in place of Chris Gayle who injured his left hamstring while fielding. Fletcher scored a 64-ball 84 comprising 5 sixes and 6 fours helping his side overhaul the target with 10 balls to spare.Fletcher was adjudged man of the match. Group-1 is now wide open, with West Indies well on its way to the semi-finals. South Africa, Sri Lanka and England have 2 points each. Earlier in the day, South Africa had defeated Afghanistan by 37 runs.Today, Australia will clash with Bangladesh in a crucial Group-2 fixture. The match will be played in Bengaluru at 7:30 PM.In the Women's World Cup, Sri Lanka beat Ireland by 14 runs at Mohali last night. Opting to bat, Sri Lanka posted 129 for 7, and they later restricted Ireland to 115. Irish spinner Ciara Metcalfe was named player of the match.Earlier, West Indies women's team had recorded a 49-run win over Bangladesh.Australia will take on New Zealand in Nagpur today at 3:30 PM.
