T-20 World Cup Cricket:Rain stops Ireland Windies match;better run rate pushes WI through

In the ICC Twenty-20 World cup cricket, the Group-B match between Ireland and the West Indies was called off due to rain at Colombo last night. Both teams were awarded a point each, but a better net run rate helped the West Indies to qualify to the Super-8 stage, while Ireland's World Cup campaign came to an end. Our correspondent reports that the West Indies- Ireland match had to be abandoned after heavy rains prevented the completion of the game in Colombo last evening. As a result, West Indies advanced to the second stage of Super 8, without winning a single match, due to a better run rate than Ireland. Earlier, West Indies won the toss and put Ireland in to bat. Steady bowling and fall of wickets at regular intervals, kept the Irish scoring in check and they managed only 129 in 19 overs. But then the rain took over and no further play could be possible. The last league match, between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be played in Kandy today. Bangladesh had lost their first game to New Zealand while Pakistan won theirs. Bangladesh team in its current form is not expected to give Pakistan any serious challenge. The Super 8 games begin on Thursday, and India will face Australia at the Premadasa stadium in Colombo on Friday.
