India defeated Sri lanka by 26 runs in the opening warm-up cricket match of the World Twenty20 in Colombo today. Opting to bat, India not only lost Gautam Gamhir, who retired hurt in the very first over, Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina also failed to lay a strong foundation. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored an unbeaten 55 runs as India overcame early jitters to post a respectable 146 for five in 20 overs against Sri Lanka. It was Nuwan Kulasekara who provided the Lankans the early breakthroughs by sending back both Sehwag (12) and Raina (13) cheaply in the fifth over. From the Indian side, bowler Irfan Pathan took the maximum 5 wickets for 25 runs against Sri Lanka. While Lakshmipathy Balaji bagged 3 wickets for 28 runs.Sri Lankan innings too started off on the wrong note as both the openers Tillakaratne Dilshan Dilshan Munaweera were dimissed by Irfan Pathan, with the last ball of his second over to leave the the hosts reeling at 15 for two from the first three overs. Kumar Sangakkara (32) combined with Angelo Mathews (16) to resurrect the Lankan innings but with Balaji getting better off the later, the target seemed to be a distant one for the hosts.
