Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has ordered the release of all people detained during the recent unrest in the country. The move came soon after the Syrian Government said it would consider reforms to meet the legitimate demands of people in the southern city of Derra where at least 25 protesters were shot dead by security forces on Wednesday. Officials promised to study the need for lifting the state of emergency, in place since 1963. The government also said it would bring to trial those suspected of killing several protesters in Deraa.
