The UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura called the Syrian crisis the worst humanitarian tragedy since the Second World War. In an interview, de Mistura spoke about the escalation of violence in Syria and the ongoing attempts to secure a sustainable ceasefire. <br/><br/>In his 46 years and 19 wars with the UN, including Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balkans, de Mistura added, he has never seen so many players with so many different agendas, like in this conflict.<br/><br/>It has been more than five years since the civil war erupted in Syria, and after multiple attempts to resolve the conflict, there is still no end in sight to the fighting.<br/><br/>
