Syria has opened a national dialogue today, aimed to resolve the political crisis due to the ongoing anti government demonstrations. According to Syria’s official news agency SANA, country’s Vice President Faruq al-Shara opened the conference. Speaking on the occasionFaruq al-Shara said that this is the start of national dialogue, which will lead to a comprehensive conference. He added that dialogue will herald the transformation of Syria into a pluralistic and democratic country.Nearly 180 people are taking part in the dialogue but most of the prominent opposition figures are not participating saying that the situation is not conducive for talks at present.Opposition is demanding sweeping political reforms in the country including abolition of monopoly of ruling Bath party in Syrian politics.
