Syria attacks kill dozens in rebel-held Eastern Ghouta

At least 47 people have been killed in Eastern Ghouta near the Syrian capital following heavy aerial bombardment by Syrian and Russian forces, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.<br/><br/>The latest casualties yesterday bring to 78 the total number of deaths in the last 24 hours in the rebel-held area near Damascus, the UK-based war monitor said.<br/><br/>Siraj Mahmoud, head of the civil defence rescue service outside Damascus, told Reuters news agency that Today there is no safe area at all.<br/><br/>The Syrian Observatory said it was the highest number of deaths recorded in one day since attacks escalated six weeks ago. More than 335 people have been killed since then.<br/><br/>Syria, Russia escalate air raids on rebel-held areas. It warned the death toll could rise as bodies were still being pulled from the rubble and many of the 197 wounded were in critical condition.<br/>
