Dr. Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi today took over as an Election Commissioner. He is a 1976-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. Zaidi fills the vacancy in the Election Commission of India which was caused by the assumption of charge by VS Sampath as the Chief Election Commissioner succeeding Dr. SY Quraishi.

Dr. Zaidi superannuated as the Civil Aviation Secretary last month. He had earlier worked as Director-General of Civil Aviation and was India’s representative in the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
